October 19th, 2009 - Map Edits Galore
As you may have read in the Alpha Tester's journal, there were quite a large number of map edits in the latest build. Having tested our maps with large numbers of players, we found our maps just too small to hold them in. So we opened them up and had roughly 30 people on the server to put it to the test. The test proved awesome. All of the edits really improved the gameplay, some more than others. So I will just go down the list of edits that I made to my maps: PS_Snowstorm (Most heavily modified of my maps): - Added two rather large routes on either side of the middle capture point. -- entrance/exit to middle -- entrance/exit to center -- exit to underground tunnel -- entrance from sniper tower - Elongated the middle to fit more players - Moved last flag capture to the bunker left of the spawn exit TC_Rubble - Replaced old sniper tower for red with a new one that has more cover - Added new right to the left of the sniper tower incase red is being pinned down at their spawn - Added alternate spawn exit for blue to drop into the dark building incase blue is being pinned down at their spawn TC_IwoJima - Added two new routes at the end of both tunnels in hopes to reduce spam All of snowstorms changes made me very happy since they all played well. I saw very little impact with the rubble changes, however I knew this would be the case. Rubble is already a balanced map, so I don't want to add to much to it in fears of ruining the balance. The iwojima changes did not reduce spam, which I was hoping for, but it did create more space for people to move around and avoid being slaughtered. I will have to add more changes to iwo and snowstorm for next build. Map Overviews are below:

I liked the rubble changes, and I think the Iwo changes were a step in the right direction. Now you just gotta take another much larger step in that same direction. |

I think the Iwo changes did help quite a bit. The problem is a lot of people just used the normal tunnels anyway. Though it was cool using those tunnels and sneaking up on people that forgot they were there. ![]() |

On a side note, when they did it was lolsauce for about 30 seconds before the enemy knew you had just infiltrated their ranks. |

Yeah for the next version, I am looking to add solid bunkers and other cover to defend people against spam. Currently, there is nothing to protect someone from an M79 shell and the only hope against a grenade is to run.
